Zwakala means 'come closer'. It is this convivial african spirit that we brew our award winning brews with. Established in 2016, we are an independent & proudly South African craft brewery. Luca Tooley, Zwakala's head brewer says that "Magoebaskloof is a very special place, and I was so lucky to grow up here. The area is an adventurer’s delight with trout fishing, hiking, river swimming & horse-riding. It also has a very welcoming local feel that I think visitors really enjoy and come back for. Our pure mountain water that we brew with is of such high quality & it really comes out in the flavour of the beer. Our beers are crisp and refreshing and our brewery’s location is unique - an adventure to get there.
I come from a big vivacious family & we live by the motto “the more the merrier” Craft beer reconnects the consumer to beer that is slow-brewed, locally-owned and full of flavour. My love of beer and Limpopo inspires me!"
In 2019 Zwakala's Lager was awarded the Best Light Beer in the Country and in 2022 our Weekend Special was awarded Best Beer in the Country. We are extremely proud of our award winning brews and strive to maintain the high standard of brewing.
"Once you've tasted Limpopo - you will never go back" - so the saying goes. Our Limpopo Lager is our multi-award winning brew. Straight from the Broederstroom River
Best Light Beer 2019 - SANBT
Our latest seasonal brew aligns with the National Bird of the Year - the Cape Parrot! The Cape Parrot Project partners with communities to restore forest habitat. They do this by supporting community members to grow seedlings which they at the Project then buys back.
The Weekend Special is a white IPA with lemongrass giving it the most incredible taste. So good that it won the SANBT Beer of the Year Award in 2022
