Zwakala means 'come closer'. It is this convivial african spirit that we brew our award winning brews with. Established in 2016, we are an independent & proudly South African craft brewery. Luca Tooley, our head brewer says that "Magoebaskloof is a very special place, and I was so lucky to grow up here. The area is an adventurer’s delight with trout fishing, hiking, river swimming & horse-riding. It also has a very welcoming local feel that I think visitors really enjoy and come back for. Our pure mountain water that we brew with is of such high quality & it really comes out in the flavour of the beer. Our beers are crisp and refreshing and our brewery’s location is unique - an adventure to get there.
I come from a big vivacious family & we live by the motto “the more the merrier” Craft beer reconnects the consumer to beer that is slow-brewed, locally-owned and full of flavour. My love of beer and Limpopo inspires me!"
We have grown both locally and nationally and in 2019 our Lager was awarded the Best Light Beer in the Country. We are extremely proud of our award winning brews and strive to maintain the high standard of brewing.

SUPPORT OUR ARTISTS
Our local artists have not had an easy time since the pandemic & lockdown. We are collaborating with hand selected artists who have been impacted by the shutdown and will support their first online sales through our store. Zwakala means come closer and we hope through these collaborations you come closer to local art too! Click below for our first featured artist

Embroidery Initiative by Merle
Merle Payne is the founder of Barok - an embroidery initiative that uses iconic African imagery to create luxurious household and fashion pieces.
Barok's incentive is to create jobs for the local women and provide training in various decorative techniques. The embellishment techniques incorporate typical Shangaan embroidery, Zulu stud-work (using recycled beverage cans), Xhosa stitching, and the Venda use of borders.
